Early Childhood Screening
Early Childhood Screening helps identify children who may benefit from early childhood services, including vision and hearing before they enter school. The screening is free and gives you and your child an early connection to the school district. The activities are like games and most children find them fun! Early Learning Services Pond Center conducts screenings for children in Bloomington. Watch for information in the mail around the time your child turns three-years-old. If you do not receive a packet, call 952-681-6200.

How do I make an appointment?
You can book an appointment online at www.ecscreening.youcanbook.me or call 952-681-6200 (English) or 952-681-6219 (Spanish). Screening is offered most weekdays and one Saturday morning each month, year-round. Please be prompt. If, for any reason, you need to cancel your appointment, call Pond Center at 952-681-6200.
Who needs to be screened?
All children living in Bloomington need to be screened. The state of Minnesota requires that all children be screened before they enter kindergarten. This screening is most valuable when completed as soon as possible after their third birthday.
What is Early Childhood Screening?
Screening is a free check of your child's vision, hearing, height, weight, and development, as well as a review of her or his immunization records. Children are screened by our trained staff. Your child will be assessed in three important developmental areas: motor skills, concepts, and communication skills. This not an IQ test. It does not rank children according to scores. The purpose of screening is early detection of children's development, health and other factors that may interfere with a child's learning, growth and development.
Why is screening important?
Screening helps identify children who may benefit from early childhood services before they enter school and connects them with the appropriate resources and programs. If your child has already been screened, he/she does not need to be screened again.
If your child is younger than three-years-old and you have concerns about his/her development, call "Help Me Grow" at 952-563-8900.
